"I am good, but not an angel. I do sin, but I am not the devil. I am just a small girl in a big world trying to find someone to love." - Marilyn Monroe

Tahlia Jacqueline Ramsey
Goes by; Tahlia, Tahl
Age; 24
From; Serbia
Bio; To most of the world Tahlia Ramsey appears to be a typical, privileged rich girl, but to those who know her best she is the daughter of two of the most powerful mafia families in the trade. Born to Declan Ramsey and Dragana Milosevic during their brief two year marriage, Tahlia lived with her mother in Belgrade, Serbia until she was ten, from then after living with her father in London. Declan tried his best to keep Tahlia out of the world of organized crime but the allure of such a powerful lifestyle swept her into the underground. Managing to keep her normal life apart from her life of crime was never easy as she worked her way through both high school and college, but she emerged from the end of the tunnel more or less unscathed. Working a “day” job as a sought after interior designer helped keep her sane, that is until her father was found brutally assassinated in his penthouse apartment. Killing and stealing no longer eat away at her conscious and Tahlia can’t help but wonder if she’ll ever feel in control of her life again.

“I’m so sorry for your loss my dear.”

Tahlia was getting sick of hearing those words. Of course she’d plaster on a wistful, appreciative smile and exchange handshakes and hugs with each well-wisher, but honestly, she just wanted to go home and hide under her bed sheets. She’d been dreading this moment ever since her father had been found bloodied and battered in his bedroom by the family maid. He was supposed to be invincible, the one constant when the rest of her world was blown out of proportion, and now he was gone.

“You know he loved you, right?”

Dragana Milosevic appeared at Tahlia’s shoulder and looped an arm around her waist, guiding her away from the black granite headstone being mourned over by her father’s friends and colleagues. Tahlia could hardly remember the last time she’d seen her mother. In fact, she was surprised Dragana even made an appearance at the funeral considering her rather strained relationship with her father Declan.

“He never wanted this life for you Tahlia. Declan always said that the mafia was a brutal way of living but the only way he knew how. He was a complete fool if he thought there was a way he could protect a girl as stubborn as you from weaseling her way into the business.”

For the first time in weeks a genuine smile tugged its way across Tahlia’s face. Stubborn. If there was one little bit of her genetics that her father never failed to take credit for it was her ability to never back down. Well, that, and the way she twisted words like a smooth-talking con man.

“He left everything to you I’d expect,” Dragana trailed off, leaving the statement as more of a question.

Tahlia scoffed.

“Please don’t tell me the only reason you came was to collect on your alimony.”

Dragana laughed, tugging her suddenly more frigid daughter to her side. Tahlia found herself hating the sound of their Louboutins clacking on the pavement in perfect unison even more.

“Of course that’s not the only reason darling girl. I came to tell you to watch your back. A man as powerful as your father can’t be taken down by just anyone. Declan had enemies in high places and I wouldn’t be surprised if whoever killed him is keeping tabs on you too.”

In one fluid movement Dragana stepped around into Tahlia’s path, grasping her firmly by the shoulders.

“Take care of yourself darling. You should know better than anyone that life can be deceptive. And don’t torture yourself; Declan wouldn’t want his daughter to let his death define her.”

Beside them a gray Rolls Royce with tinted windows pulled up and in the back of her mind Tahlia shook herself for not hearing it before.

“Know who your friends are Tahlia,” Dragana murmured, cupping her daughter’s face with a gloved hand and kissing her gently on the cheek, “Mikhail and I will be watching.”

With that the rear door of the Rolls Royce pushed open and Dragana slipped inside, leaving Tahlia standing out in the cold in front of the church. As the car pulled away Tahlia tugged her burgundy pea coat tighter around her slender frame.

Where was her touchstone when she needed him?
